The Yuksom-Dzongri trek is often termed as shortest high altitude treks in Sikkim. This trek mainly includes fascinating views of exotic wildlife, landscapes, green meadows, and high snowy mountains. As Dzongri is surrounded by the milky white views of snowy mountains, this trek is also termed as, walking in paradise. The total trekking distance is around 50 km, and the maximum altitude is 13,700 ft. below here, a complete itinerary for Yuksom Dzongri Trek is briefly described.
Day 1 – (Arriving Bagdogra Airport) –
After arriving at Bagdogra airport, you will immediately start the journey towards Kalimpong. It takes around 3 hours to reach Kalimpong from Bagdogra. Once you reached there, make yourself comfortable in the hotel.
Day 2 – (Start Trip) –
Have your breakfast at the hotel and then start the journey towards Yuksom. On your way, you will witness the rough winding terrains and narrow passes. After reaching Yuksom, make yourself comfortable in the camp, and then start exploring the local sightseeing. In the evening, you can make your move around Ani Gompa and coronation sites.
Day 3 – (Yuksom to Sachen) –
Start fresh from Yuksom towards Bakhim, which is 14 km away. You have to walk through thick oak trees and dense pine forest, so pay keen attention. On your way to Sachen, you will cross the Prek Chu River. Reach Sachen and arrange your stay in the camp. Make an overnight stay at the camp.
Day 4 (Sachen – Bakhim – Tshoka camp) –
Start the trek towards Bakhim through the rhododendron and Magnolia trees. After making a small halt, you again need to start the trek towards Tshoka village. Reach Tshoka village and witness the breathtaking view of Mt. Pandim, Lamba-Lamini, Aralunchong, etc. Enjoy the night stay at wooden huts in Tshoka.
Day 5 (Tshoka to Dzongri) –
Start early towards Phethang. You need to make the trek through the deep, dense forest with more than 400 varieties of flower species. After reaching Phethang take a small break to enjoy the scenic surrounding, and again start the trek towards Dzongri. Reach Dzongri and ensure your stay in the wooden huts.
Day 6 (Local sightseeing at Dzongri) –
If you want to witness the sunrise, then wake up early in the morning. The sunrise looks beautiful through the Khangchendzonga range. After that have your breakfast, and start the excursion towards Laxmi Pokhari. Again, return to the huts in Dzongri.
Day 7 (Dzongri to Tshoka) –
Wake up and start the trek towards the top of Dzongri. You are going to love the hilltop view from Dzongri. After that make your move towards Tshoka via Singalila ridge. Overnight stay at Tshoka in the wooden huts.
Day 8 (Tshoka to Yuksom) –
It will take around 7 hours to reach Yuksom from Tshoka, so start the journey from early morning. Bid farewell to trekking staffs as here the trek comes to an end.
Day 9 (Yuksom to Darjeeling) –
To catch your flight at Bagdogra airport, you need to reach Darjeeling via Pelling.
